Rio in action for the Vaqueros during the 2017 season

Vaqueros defender Rio Ramirez earned his spot on the 2017 squad after attending an Open Tryout.

With the offseason upon the Vaqueros, new rounds of Open Tryouts are slated for 2 p.m. Saturday at Fort Worth Arlington Heights High School.

Here are 5 Questions with Rio:

1. What are your thoughts on the past season?

This past season the Fort Worth Vaqueros helped me grow as a player. Being able to play with older teammates helped me gain a different perspective through life and through the game. I want to say I am more mature now because of them.

2. How did you make the connection with the Vaqueros?

I made the connection with Vaqueros thanks to my dad. He had heard about the team and encouraged me to tryout after learning about the tryouts. I’m glad I decided to give it a try.

3. How is playing with the TCC club team this school year

Playing with the TCC club team is another great opportunity to continue to learn and improving my game. I like it so far! But I’m missing my  Vaquero teammates.

4. What are you studying at TCC?

I am working on my basics. My sister encouraged me to knock those out of the way so when I am ready to transfer to a University, I can focus on what I really want to study. At the moment, I want to study both business and mechanical engineering. I am not sure yet but those two subjects interest me.

5. What is your favorite soccer moment?

This is a tough question. One of my favorite soccer moments is when I was 9 years old and I was playing in Florida for the Kick It 3v3 tournament. It’s one of my favorite moments because I scored the golden goal to win the tournament.
