FORT WORTH _ It is not summertime without a trip to the beach. So as the “Summer of Soccer” approaches the Vaqueros are teaming up with Game On for a pair of beach soccer tournaments.
The adults will enjoy the first ever beach soccer event at the new state of the art Game On Sports Complex in west Fort Worth with men’s, women’s and co-ed division competitions the weekend of July 14-15 (cost is $350 per team).
Fort Worth youth enjoy the sand the weekend of July 21-22 with boys and girls divisions 7-17. Registration for teams in the u-7 through u-10 costs $250 while u-11 and above pay $350 per team.
“The crew at Game On have built the top sporting complex in the nation so it only makes sense to use this top notch facility to add to the ‘Summer of Soccer’ with a pair of beach soccer tournaments,” Vaqueros general manager Tobias Xavier Lopez said. “No sport is played by more people in Fort Worth than soccer, so it makes sense to offer a unique soccer opportunity for the futbol community in Cowtown with beach soccer competitions.”
Beach soccer features teams of five players (4 field players plus a goalkeeper) on the field at a time. The Game On Sports Complex features an outdoor beach volleyball complex that will be converted over for two weekends so that the Vaqueros and Game On can bring the beach to North Texas.
The Vaqueros dubbed 2018 the “Summer of Soccer” due to the combination of the Vaqueros NPSL season, the club’s participation in the U.S. Open Cup, the FREE admission for all Fort Worth ISD students, faculty and employees plus the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
“We have crowned hundreds of champions at Game On but there will be only one team that can claim the first title of beach soccer champions,” Game On Director of Operations Chris Auth said. “We expect a full field of teams for the inaugural competitions and can’t wait to partner with the Vaqueros for some memorable beach soccer tournaments this summer.”
