FORT WORTH _ It’s an early season game but the league says it’s a big game. Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. matchup at Farrington Field against the Midland/Odessa Sockers has been named the NPSL national game of the week. The Vaqueros (2-0, 6 points) host Midland (1-0, 3 points) in Lone Star Conference play. Fort Worth picked up a win last Saturday with a 6-1 victory against Tyler FC while Midland picked up a 1-0 road win at Brownsville. “We are looking to build on a great home start to the season last weekend, but we know its going to be a tough task up against a very strong Midland team,” Vaqueros coach Nick Stavrou said. “With a few regulars not available we will see how deep our squad is.”
• The Vaqueros and Sockers both reside in the Northern pod of the Lone Star Conference meaning the two sides will play a home and away series. Tyler FC is the third team in the pod. All other conference opponents meet the Vaqueros only once during Lone Star play.
• Midland reached the NPSL national final game last season. • Both the Vaqueros and Sockers earned berths in the 2018 U.S. Open Cup but have been eliminated from the tournament. • Saturday’s game will be broadcast live on the Vaqueros Facebook page and on Pirate Radio 97.5 FM.
• The Vaqueros pre-game party is once again at Magnolia Motor Lounge at 5 p.m. with the Supporters march to leave for Farrington at 7 p.m. The first 100 supporters will receive a voucher for a free hotdog at Farrington.
• The Vaqueros post game party will again take place at World of Beer along with players, staff and ownership.
